tcworld conference 2012
Despite the global financial crisis, technical communication and international information development have remained flourishing sectors, not only in Germany, but around the world. This became obvious during the tekom annual and tcworld conference 2012, which was held in Wiesbaden, Germany from October 23-25. In total, 3700 visitors – including 450 from abroad – participated in the world’s largest event in the field of technical communication – a ten percent increase from the previous year.
The social media hype has many companies wondering if they need to reassess their information development to cater for mobile versions and to ensure their presence on social media platforms. At the tcworld conference a special track was devoted to Content Strategy. International experts presented topics such as Supporting Mobile Devices, and Transforming Technical Content into a Business Asset. Numerous workshops also dealt with content strategies.
Other tracks at the tcworld conference included International Management, Localization, Language Technologies, Mobile Documentation, Technical Authoring, Terminology and User Assistance.
Both the tcworld conference and the tekom annual conference, attracted 2500 participants who immersed themselves in topics covering the entire process chain of information development – from the basics of professional technical writing to the preparation of technical documents for multiple languages and markets.
An additional 1200 visitors attended the accompanying tekom Trade Fair, where 194 exhibitors displayed their products and services in five exhibition halls. Seventy-four exhibitors came from countries other than Germany, highlighting the increasing international importance of the event.
For the third time in a row, associations and organizations from different nations joined under the roof of the Associations World. This included partner associations from India, Japan, and Korea, as well as many other countries.
The next tekom annual and tcworld conference will take place in Wiesbaden, Germany, from November 6-8, 2013.
