tcworld India 2013 – “an outstanding example for global cooperation”

Labeled by participants as “the best organized and energized conference ever”, the tcworld India wrapped up its third successful conference on February 22. The two-day event, which was held at the Mövenpick Hotel and Spa in Bangalore, drew an international crowd of more than 360 technical communication professionals.

Most technical writers came from multi-national corporations from all over India. Presenters had flown in from Germany, the United States, The Netherlands, Singapore, Australia and Romania.

In more than 45 presentations, workshops and user forums, presenters shared new and important information on topics such as project management, mobile documentation, social media, trends, and tools. Topics were arranged in three main tracks, Management, Technology, and the new Translation and Localization track.

Sandeep Nulkar opened the Localization and Translation track with a presentation on the past, present and future of the industry in India and the synergy of Translation and Localization with the world of Technical Writing. "The Translation and Localization track at the tcworld India conference was a defining moment for the Indian translation industry, “ Sandeep later concluded. “For the first time in India, we have managed to create a terrific platform for tech writers and translators to collaborate to offer multilingual content. I am already looking forward to the next conference and the numerous possibilities we could offer to participants!"

Tom Aldous, Vice President of Operations from Acrolinx, discussed the evolution of the technical communication industry and the migration of processes and workflows from the word processor to the use of smart phones. “I have had the opportunity to attend and speak at many industry conferences around the world. I can honestly say that tcworld India 2013 was the best organized and energized conference I have ever had the opportunity to participate in. I will definitely be coming back next year!” Tom stated.

Stefan Gentz, another presenter from TRACOM OHG Germany, added: “When an incredible roster of Indian and international thought leaders meet up with such an open-minded community of tech writers and translators like India has, an outstanding conference is the result. tcworld India 2103 was an amazing experience for me. It was perfectly organized by tcworld and TWIN and an outstanding example for global cooperation. A great social program and a lot of fun made it even more valuable. I’m looking forward to come back in 2014!”

It wouldn’t have been a tcworld India conference if it didn’t have a fashion show! The Beauty with Brains event returned, comprised of men and women who work in the field of technical communication. They spent many hours practicing the choreography under Geetha Shetti from Oracle.

There was also entertainment of the Bollywood kind. Presenters were called onto the stage and had a dance-off. The networking event was held on top of the Mövenpick Hotel overlooking the views of Bangalore. There was a lovely dinner included as well as a DJ spinning Bollywood and Pop hits.

Vinish Garg, who gave a presentation on WordPress for Technical Documentation, said “My experience at tcworld India 2013 has been more than excellent. In addition to quality sessions on a variety of high-quality topics, it was indeed nice to meet the technical communication stalwarts from the US, Germany, Belgium, UK, Netherlands, Australia, Singapore, Ukraine and elsewhere. It was an international event in every sense and I got to interact with these professionals during breaks over a cup of coffee or during QA sessions.”

The international exhibition saw some major players exhibit their systems and products. As roles grow in India, there is a huge demand for more companies to come and introduce their products on the sub-continent.  Adobe Systems, Oracle, MadCap, Information Mapping, Etteplan-Tedopres, SDL, HP, Knowledgeworks and Fidel Localization Services were the main sponsors for the two-day conference.

“tcworld India helped us explore the opportunities in the Indian market. Without this event and thanks to the very positive response we received we would never have been able to come to an informative decision on moving forward,” Berry Braster, Marketing Director of Etteplan Tedopres revealed.

Saibal Bhattacharjee, Senior Product Marketing Manager at Adobe Systems Inc. shared his positive experience: “The tcworld India 2013 had it all for technical communication specialists and content strategy professionals: a great line-up of speakers, insightful presentations on thought leadership topics and industry best practices and plenty of opportunity to interact with tools vendors like Adobe and to network with peers. The Adobe Tech Comm team is happy to be associated with the tcworld India conference and we are already looking forward to next year’s event.”
