International trends and developments in technical communication

From November 3rd to 5th, 2010, the tekom annual conference takes place at the Rhein-Main-Hallen in Wiesbaden. The conference offers a broad range of cutting-edge topics as well as an international trade fair for technical communication and information management. This year’s conference also features the „Associations World“, a joint booth where 18 trade associations from Europe and abroad showcase their respective countries. A special highlight takes place on Thursday night, when the tekom-Dokupreis is awarded for excellent instruction and operating manuals.

The conference program offers more than 200 lectures and workshops, covering the latest trends and developments regarding the creation and administration of technical communication. Technical communication includes instruction and operating manuals, online help, software manuals, spare part catalogs, data sheets, service portals as well as training documents.

Cutting-edge topics

This year’s conference program includes up-to-date topics such as “Agile Development” and “iPhone, iPad & Co.” The term “Agile Development” describes a process from software development that can notably enhance the quality of manuals and online help. The second new topic explores the technical possibilities of mobile touchscreen devices to improve the comrehensibility of manuals. It also analyzes the question in how far the iPhone, iPad and e-book product concepts have altered user behavior.
