In May 2015, a new global standard for translation services was introduced – ISO 17100* (Translation services – Requirements for translation services). However, reactions in Europe regarding the new international standard were restrained. Perhaps this was due to the fact that another standard already existed: EN 15038 (Translation services - Service requirements). The similarity of the two standards is already reflected in their titles. This article will take a closer look at the two standards, their differences and similarities, and the resulting consequences for language service providers and their clients.
